Body Control Pilates Group Mat Classes, and 121 Machine Sessions in Carmarthenshire

Body Control Pilates offers a comprehensive programme of exercises for both mat and machine work. They are adapted from the ‘classical’ exercises developed by Joseph Pilates. We believe that many of these classical exercises are often not suitable for the average person and the average body. In order for someone to work safely and effectively and to gain the full benefits of Pilates, these classical exercises should be broken down to establish good movement skills thus building the best possible foundation upon which to progress towards the classical, more advanced work. This is the essence of the Body Control Pilates Method.

Body Control Pilates is remarkably effective – and medically-approved. It is of an holistic nature, being based upon a well-constructed philosophical foundation. Central to the Method is ‘awareness of your own body’ and each and every exercise is built around its eight basic principles: Relaxation, Concentration, Co-ordination, Centring, Alignment, Breathing, Stamina, Flowing Movements

By working on the deep architectural structure of the body ‘core stability’ is achieved, and then maintained, through increasingly complex movement sequences. Specific problem-areas can be targeted by an exercise, but always in relation to the rest of one’s body.

Your body awareness is heightened by bringing together mind and body – Body Control Pilates literally teaches you to be in control of your body, allowing you to handle stress more effectively and achieve relaxation more easily.

The Body Control Pilates Method can work for everyone, regardless of fitness level! Exercises can be mat or machine-based.

Our group mat work classes are restricted to a maximum of 12 people for improvers, Intermediate, and healthy bones classes, and 8 people for the healthy backs and classical Pilates classes. This means that Becki can give the highest level of attention and instruction to each person in the class, and ensure that they are exercising safely. Please contact Becki on 07502 215827 or pilatesinthenordic@gmail.com to discuss which class would be most suitable for you. Before attending a class she will give you a client enrolment form to complete. This is so that she has all of the details required to ensure that you exercise safely within each session and achieve your goals. Given the small class sizes, and the benefits of attending weekly sessions, classes are charged in half term blocks which must be booked in advance. The cost of a block is £36 for a general class, and £45 for the Healthy Backs & classical Pilates (based on a 6 week half term).

Class descriptions 

Improvers Pilates – Building on the basic technique we start to progress the complexity of the exercises.

Intermediate Pilates – A faster flowing class which introduces more challenging movements.

Classical Pilates – The set sequence of exercises developed by Joseph Pilates (must be injury free).

Healthy Backs Pilates – A gentle Class focusing on functional movement for those with chronic back pain.

Healthy Bones Pilates – Osteoporosis safe class which includes an element of weight baring.


121 Machine Sessions

These 121 sessions are perfect for anyone wanting to spend an hour purely on themselves, are working towards a specific sports or fitness goal, or have a medical condition or injury. The class is adapted completely for your needs and goals using a range of Pilates Studio Equipment. Becki’s studio in Brechfa is fully equipped with Reformer, Ladder barrel, Wunder chair, and Wall Unit. 121 sessions cost £30 for an hour, or £150 for a block of 6 sessions.


Becki’s Pilates Journey

In 2005 Becki had an operation on her lower back. After the operation she started going to a Body Control Pilates teacher for 121 sessions as recommended by her osteopath. It is due to her own experience of the benefits of this amazing form of movement Becki decided to train to become an instructor with Body Control. She continues to be a member of the Body Control Pilates Assiciation today by attending regular training courses to update and expand her skills, and weekly Pilates classes for her own body. Becki is currently working towards her Pilates for the Older Adult qualification which includes a Pilates programme for conditions such as Parkinson’s disease and MS. In addition to her formal Pilates qualifications below, Becki has also attended Pilates training courses in breast cancer recovery, understanding common medical conditions, pregnancy, runners, and large and small equipment courses.
